At this all day retreat, I will help you utilize all of your senses to write in response to food, memory, and hands-on cooking. Chef Don Skipworth (aka "Skip") will invite us into his kitchen to explore five taste sensations: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy, which are the bases for all wonderful meals. We will enjoy together, and take some home with us (along with a few recipes).

Sharon Smith is the coordinator of the retreat, drawing from a rich background in writing and publication, with a special interest in books about food and travel. Sharon has published several books with her husband David, and has coordinated several retreats at their home in Forestville, CA, and in Umbria, Italy.
Skip's home, (which he shares with co-hosts Robert and Carlos) is lovingly referred to as "Bambooland." Located in the Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara, the setting is a Japanese style Ryokan, surrounded by a 40 year-old bamboo forest, complete with a koi pond.
.
The retreat is limited to twelve people, and includes an optional cocktail gathering on Friday evening, writing workshops all day Saturday, breakfast and lunch.
The fee for the retreat is $425; a non-refundable $150 deposit is required to hold your place, and the full amount must be received by January 31, 2011.
Those who come in pairs are entitled to $50 off!
Come be inspired by ancient Asian poetry, delicious meals, and wonderful writers.
