What’s Another Word for Delicious?
Who We Are
Do some of your most vivid memories involve food or a beautiful meal? Have you ever had a cooking or baking disaster that, in the end, made you laugh? Then try your hand at writing about food, and discover the tender, funny, beautiful (and sometimes weird) stories waiting inside you.
Whether you’re a foodie, a generous baker, or just love preparing meals and reading recipes, writing about food can help you find your way into personal narratives about the people you’ve loved and the places you’ve been.
Through playful prompts and guided feedback, this workshop will help us:
-

utilize the five senses, especially taste and smell
-

discover how memoir cookbook writers can inspire us
-

explore some beautiful (and sometimes bizarre) recipes
-

find new ways to describe food (without using the word “delicious”)
-

reveal the intimate connections between food, memory, and culture
-

turn everyday meals and kitchen moments into vivid, story-rich scenes

The Setting and the Vibe
This day is about exploring and enjoying food as inspiration for writing. Maybe you want to self-publish a family cookbook, or explore writing restaurant reviews: here, you can try your hand at food writing, get some fresh ideas, and have some fun.
Wear comfortable clothes. Bring your journal and a pen (or whatever you like to write with). I’ll provide the prompts, the cozy atmosphere, and a homemade brunch to keep you nourished while we create together.
Come as you are.
Join us for an afternoon of writing about food: eating it, preparing it, remembering it, and sharing it with others.
